SEO Best practices For 2017

October 16, 2017

Hi Guys,

Tom from T17:Digital here. Today I'm going to be talking about SEO best practices, especially the trending practices in 2017.

As we move towards a more mobile-first approach, it is important that our website and SEO content is responsive across all devices. A recent research study by Adobe has shown that in 2016 there was a 54% increase in visits to retail websites, from mobile. The research uncovered peoples reasons for switching from desktop to mobile to browse the web. The reason was that consumers can now view larger images easier on handheld devices and entering payment information feels more secure and simpler then ever before.

So how do prepare for mobile-first indexing?

Google first announced mobile-first indexing in November 2016, saying:

"To make our results more useful, we've began experiments to make our index mobile-first."

There is currently only 1 set of criteria that ranks mobiles and desktops. Maybe at some point in the future, there will be separate ranking criteria for mobile and desktop?

Another SEO best practice is to take part in AMP, the Accelerated Mobile Pages project.

The AMP Project is a new initiative by Google to build an improved, more user friendly mobile website.

Google have introduced a new set of rules that create a simplified, lighter version of hTML. Pages built to conform with AMP are able to load super-quick on all mobile devices.

A specialist digital marketing agency, could help you integrate AMP.

The final SEO best practice that I will cover today is structured data!!!!

If you're reading this and you've no clue what structured data is, I suggest you close this site down and do some research - it's going to be huge!!!

Structured data is information on your website that has been marked up in the websites code in a special way that helps Google's algorithm better understand it.

This data will could then show up when someone performs a voice search on their handheld device. They even show up when you search for a recipe.
